Sway Concussion Testing
Heartland uses a program called “Sway Medical." Sway medical is a mobile app that utilizes the phone as an assessment tool.
Sway is a quick, app-based test that measures balance, reaction time, and cognitive function, giving staff and medical professionals valuable information if a head injury occurs.
Each athlete completes a baseline Sway test, which provides a reference point for comparison should a concussion be suspected during the season. This helps ensure players return to play safely and responsibly.
The test takes place at Alomere Health in the lobby meeting room.
Players who attend need a phone or access to a phone for testing (can use a parent phone). Skaters test on the phone.
The list of players above from U12/PeeWee up to U15/Bantam need to be tested.
A couple things that help with testing:
1. Download the app ahead of time.
2. Make sure the phone is charged up.
3. Remove screen time limits for the Sway Medical App.
