New to Hockey
Getting Started:
Hockey is a fun, fast-paced sport for all ages! Beginners can join learn-to-skate or learn-to-play programs to build confidence on the ice.
What to Expect:
Practices focus on skating, stickhandling, and teamwork. Younger players start with non-competitive, fun-focused games.
Costs & Assistance:
Hockey programs include fees for ice time and gear. Please see the Rink Rookie program below.
Parent Tips:
- Arrive early (30 min) for practice to get geared up.
- Cheer positively and encourage players to have fun!
Rink Rookie Program
This program is to encourage young boys and girls to try hockey. Boys and girls, 8 and under and are eligible for the program for two seasons. For a registration fee of $225, young skaters can join hockey. AAHA provides most of the equipment needed:
- Helmet
- Breezers
- Skates (Limited Sizes)
- Shin Guards
- Shoulder Pads
- Elbow Pads
- Gloves
Equipment Individual Players Must Provide
- Hockey Stick
- Socks
- Mouth Guard
- Cup/Pelvis Protector
- Neck Guard/Shirt
